The Løvbjerg chain dates back to the 1920s. Merchant Christian Løvbjerg built a grocery store in the village of Torsted, south of Horsens. In the 1950s, his three sons – Carsten, Hans Jørgen and Knud – helped shape the development of self-service stores in Denmark, and in 1959 the family opened Jutland’s first supermarket in Silkeborg. Today, Løvbjerg is Denmark’s largest family-owned supermarket chain.
